Our Brotherhood was established in 1964 by Norman E. Gates who followed the philosophy of ancient wine brotherhoods by honoring wine, country and mankind. He created our organization to unite those people who produce wine, those who sell it, and those who appreciate it. Mr. Gates served as the Grand Commander from our founding in 1964 until 1995 and was succeeded by Michael D. Doukas who led our Brotherhood until 2006. Mr. Doukas was followed by William Hegland (2006 – 2008) and Terrance McCleerey (2008 – 2014). Our current Grand Commander is Buddy Hagner.
There are chapters in major cities around the globe where you will find camaraderie with people who love wine. Various opportunities to share in great wine experiences, not only at the local chapter level, but in all chapters and internationally, are available. If you do not see a chapter in your city and have an interest in starting one, contact our National Office or the Provost for the region where you are located. We would welcome the opportunity to share our Brotherhood with you!
